In 2022 the production of sunflower seeds in the eastern regions of the country reduced in Ukraine, as a result of which approximately one third of the raw material did not go to processing.

In the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions, quite powerful enterprises left that directly processed seeds and produced oil. These businesses are currently unavailable.

Ukraine exports more than 90% of sunflower oil, the buyers of which are mainly the countries of South-east Asia - it was possible to deliver the products only  by sea.

At the same time, Ukraine has lost added value because it could not process its own raw materials.
