According to the former head of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU), the current average daily import is about 14.5 million cubic meters. However, to accumulate 13.6 billion cubic meters by November 1, imports need to increase two- to threefold.
Slovakia has the highest import capacity, at 42 million cubic meters per day.
As previously reported with reference to Serhiy Makogon, Ukraine needs to import at least an additional 5 billion cubic meters by November 1 to meet last year’s planned gas reserve targets in underground storage facilities (UGS), which equates to approximately 870 million cubic meters per month or 29 million cubic meters per day.
According to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE), this year Ukraine ended the heating season with gas reserves at 2.22% of the maximum UGS capacity, compared to last year’s withdrawal season ending on March 30 with reserves at 11.12 TWh (3.388 billion cubic meters), or 11.12% of UGS capacity.
Meanwhile, former Energy Minister Olga Buslavets reported that the total level of natural gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS at the end of last week was 6.1 billion cubic meters (including 4.7 billion cubic meters of “buffer gas”), which is 31% lower than the previous year.
