Ukraine has exported the entire permitted sugar volume to the EU in 2024

Ukraine has reached the EU limit on sugar export for 2024. Therefore, the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine "Ukrtsukor" appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to urgently establish a zero quota for sugar exports to the EU for 2024.

The updated trade agreement between the EU and Ukraine will enter into force on June 6. It provides for the establishment of a quota for the export of Ukrainian sugar for 2024 in the amount of 262,6 thousand tons. In case of its exhaustion, the mechanism of emergency braking will be applied. This week, the export of sugar from Ukraine to the EU has already reached the volume determined by the quota.

Negotiations on the terms of the updated Ukraine-EU Association Agreement will start soon, and Ukrainian sugar producers hope that the volume of the tariff quota for Ukrainian sugar, which was valid until 2022, will be revised in the direction of a significant increase.

After exhausting the quota, Ukraine will be able to resume sugar export to the EU from January 1, 2025.
