Ukraine and Sweden have coordinated approaches to simplifying the accreditation procedures for verifiers within the framework of the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
This agreement will, in particular, enable Ukrainian exporters to verify greenhouse gas emissions data in accordance with the requirements of the CBAM Regulation and to use actual data instead of default inflated values.
The Swedish partners proposed a flexible cooperation mechanism. SWEDAC is ready to provide accreditation to Ukrainian verification bodies, relying on the technical base and expertise of the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine (NAAU).
This solution makes it possible to bypass logistical obstacles related to the inability of foreign experts to visit Ukraine under martial law. This is a precedent when international accreditation will be carried out in close cooperation with the Ukrainian national body. This will significantly speed up the process for Ukrainian industrial enterprises and preserve their competitiveness in the EU market.
Currently, the parties are moving on to the legal aspects of interaction. It is expected that next week NAAU and SWEDAC specialists will hold the first technical consultations to agree on the regulations for joint work.
