Within the framework of the EU-Ukraine High-Level Transport Dialogue, Ukraine and Slovakia discussed the development of joint railway projects.
During the meeting, the parties addressed the launch of new international routes, including a new night train to Prague via Slovakia, as well as two pairs of daytime trains on the Košice – Uzhhorod.
They also discussed a possibility of reducing the time required for border and customs procedures for both passengers and cargo shipments. Ukraine offered that the Slovak side conduct a joint analysis of the efficiency of border control services and consider increasing staffing levels.
Separately the parties discussed the potential transfer to Ukraine of some decommissioned Slovak electric locomotives. This would enable Ukraine to have its own locomotive traction on the newly built European-gauge railway line Chop-Uzhhorod (1 435 mm). The locomotives will be used exclusively within Ukraine.
