Railways of Ukraine and Poland will develop intermodal routes to Asia

JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" and Polish State Railways have agreed to develop intermodal railway routes between Asia and Europe.

During the InnoTrans 2024 exhibition held in Berlin, the parties agreed to increase the capacity and efficiency of border crossings in cargoes’ transportation, as well as the expansion of border railway infrastructure.

The Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Liashchenko noted that Ukraine and Poland are strategic partners in this project, therefore it is important to coordinate work together and work on the development of border crossings and TEN-T corridors of the 1435 mm gauge on the territory of Ukraine. In addition, strengthening our logistics partnership will help to develop transit corridors that are promising for the restoration of the transit potential of our state, for example, TMTM connecting Asia with Europe.

The UZ noted that despite the war, Ukraine remains a promising country for building diversification connections between Asia and EU countries, in particular thanks to the route: People's Republic of China - Republic of Kazakhstan - Republic of Azerbaijan - Georgia - Ukraine to the Republic of Poland through the Polish-Ukrainian railway border crossings.

Therefore, the task for Ukrainian and Polish railway workers is to restore and develop the Eurasian intermodal connection and ensure the maximum efficiency of railway cargo transportation at the Polish-Ukrainian border crossings.

General Director of JSC "Polish State Railways" & PKP Group Alan Berud expressed his belief that such cooperation will contribute to the increase of railway cargo traffic between Poland and Ukraine and the development of the trade corridor from China through Central and East Asia.
