New rules for export of 6 agricultural products to the EU

Updated rules for duty-free and quota-free trade in agricultural products with the EU will come into effect on June 5, and will be valid for one year. Quotas have been established for some agricultural products based on the average harvest rate for the second half of 2021 and 2022-2023.

These rules are applied to 6 agricultural products: sugar, eggs, poultry meat, corn, cereals, honey. Ukraine has already used its quota for sugar export to the EU, which equals 262 thousand tons. “Since June 1, the Government introduced a 0 quota for sugar export, it will remain valid till the end of the year. However, Ukrainian producers continue exporting sugar to Africa, the Middle East and Great Britain”, says Taras Vysotskyi.

In general, there is enough sugar for internal consumption.

The EU is the largest trade partner of Ukraine. In 2023 almost 60 % of agricultural products were exported to the EU.

Additionally, laws will soon come into force that will ensure transparent and unhindered export mechanisms.

The new legislation changes ensure establishment of minimum prices for the export of grain and oil crops, nuts and honey.
