The only legume whose export volumes increased compared to last year was beans, which is due to the proximity of the main buyer (the EU with a share of 68% of its export), where Ukrainian beans, even before the full-scale invasion, were supplied by road transport through the western border by 40%.
On the other hand, logistical difficulties in Ukraine and strong competition for corn and other grains did not allow the export of chickpeas and lentils to long-distance destinations in the volumes that were available until February 24, 2022. Also, the development of bean trade is complicated by the impossibility of collecting a large shipment.
