Humanitarian aid to Mozambique within the framework of Ukrainian President V. Zelensky’s initiative “Grain from Ukraine”, funded by the Government of Italy

On February 12, 2026, a ceremony for the symbolic handover of the next tranche of humanitarian aid was held at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Representation in Mozambique as part of the implementation of Ukrainian President V. Zelensky's initiative “Grain from Ukraine”, funded by the Government of Italy.

Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique G. Annis emphasized that as a result of Russia’s unprovoked war against Ukraine, approximately 70 million people worldwide have suffered from deteriorating food security; the war unleashed by Russia has seriously affected the export of Ukrainian agricultural products – as one of the world's leading producers of wheat and vegetable oil – worsening the food situation in many vulnerable countries, including Mozambique.

Thanks to Ukrainian President V. Zelensky’s “Grain from Ukraine” initiative, 320 thousand tons of agricultural products have already been shipped to 18 countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, saving 20 million people from hunger. In addition, during 2024-2025, Ukraine, together with WFP and with financial support from donor countries, delivered food worth over $16.5 million to Mozambique, which included corn, yellow split peas and vegetable oil, and assured of Ukraine’s readiness to continue helping Mozambique address food security issues.
