Gas imports to Ukraine fell 28 times in April: the lowest figure since December 2024

In April 2026, Ukraine imported 29 million cubic meters of natural gas, 28 times less than in March 2026 (789 million cubic meters) and 8 times less than in April 2025 (219 million cubic meters).

This is also the lowest monthly import figure since December 2024.

The sharp collapse in import volumes is associated with high natural gas prices in Europe, which throughout March remained at a higher level than in Ukraine (on average by 9 euros/MWh).

Gas in Europe became more expensive after the start of the war in the Middle East. Given the relatively high gas reserves in Ukrainian storage facilities, Ukraine can afford not to import gas for a certain period.

In April, almost all gas was delivered to the “customs warehouse” of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities from Poland – 23.8 million cubic meters or 83% of total imports.

Imports from Poland were relatively stable throughout the month – 0.8 million cubic meters per day. Between April 16 and 22, imports from Hungary directly to the Ukrainian gas transmission system were carried out – 4.8 million cubic meters or 13%.

In January-April 2026, Ukraine imported 2.21 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 2.1 times more than in the corresponding period of 2025.

The largest volume of gas came from Poland – 1.03 billion cubic meters (46.8% of total imports), from Hungary – 779 million cubic meters (35.3%), from Slovakia – 280 million cubic meters (12.7%) and from the Southern direction – 117 million cubic meters (5.2%).
