Ukraine and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) plan to deepen strategic cooperation within the framework of the humanitarian initiative Food from Ukraine, develop international networks of agrohubs, and also scale up humanitarian demining programs and the restoration of rural communities.
This was agreed upon by the parties during a meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture and the WFP delegation.
The key topic of the negotiations was the scaling up of the humanitarian initiative Food from Ukraine as the next stage of the Grain from Ukraine program. It concerns the gradual transition from the export of raw materials to the formation of a network of international agro-food hubs in the countries of Africa and the Middle East.
The first regional agrohub is planned to be deployed in Ghana, where the reconstruction of warehouse and production facilities has already begun and local production of pasta from Ukrainian flour. Ready-made food kits will combine products of Ukrainian and local production and will perform the function of regional logistics centers for rapid response to food crises.
The parties also discussed two models of further cooperation in humanitarian demining, in particular, it concerns financing from the WFP with tenders conducted through Ukrainian mechanisms or the involvement of national expertise during procurement under WFP procedures.
