The European Union has removed the ban on Ukrainian poultry meat exports

Mykola Tochytskyi, the representative of Ukraine to the EU reported on his Facebook page that the EU had removed the ban on imports and transit of Ukrainian poultry products on the territory of the EU.

He wrote that the European Commission had published a decision on removal of the ban on imports and transit of Ukrainian poultry products on the territory of the EU. The decision was a result of consolidated work with the European Commission.

Tochytskyi added that the ban was caused by detection of avian influenza outbreaks in Ukraine.

According to his words, the EU applied a zooning regime to Ukraine for the 1st time.

At the same time, it is planned to introduce an early warning mechanism in the agricultural sector, which will facilitate timely prevention and proper control of animal and plant diseases and prevent their possible negative impact on mutually beneficial trade relations between Ukraine and the EU.

On January 22, 2020 the EU temporarily stopped imports of Ukrainian poultry meat, poultry meat products and non-processed products because of the detection of the avian influenza in Vinnytsia region of Ukraine. At the same time, these restrictions were not imposed on eggs and egg products.

In 2019 Ukraine exported to Europe 134 262 tons of poultry meat and this is 8,6 % more in comparison with 2018 (123 664 tons).
