Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky went to Odesa region within his working visit. One of the priority spheres of the Ministry’s work is sowing campaign as well as solving the problem of logistics for food export.
Due to the hostilities which are in the country now, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and its partners are looking for alternative logistic routes to send our cargoes through European seaports. For today supplies can be delivered mainly by railway across the western border. «Today the establishing of alternative logistics for the export of domestic agricultural products is a vital issue for the economy of our country,» – said Mykola Solsky. According to Mykola Solsky’s words, solutions will be offered in the nearest future.
It should be mentioned that in 2021 Ukraine harvested a record crop of cereals, legumes and oilseeds – almost 110 million tons, including cereals and legumes – more than 85 million tons, oilseeds – almost 25 million tons. Demand for domestic consumption of grain for Ukraine – 20 million tons per year, oilseeds – about 13 million tons. Earlier, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that the state will buy grain and other food supplies in the amount of annual consumption throughout the country from the state budget. This means that the Government of Ukraine is forming a reserve that guarantees Ukrainians a stable food supply.
Global markets depend a lot on Ukrainian agricultural crops. To prove that, 60% of world oil export is from Ukraine. The country exports 16 major cereals and legumes – and is one of the world's leading exporters. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has already stated the threat of mass famine and food crisis in the world due to the Russian-Ukrainian war. «The war in Ukraine has already broken supply chains and is causing a significant increase in fuel, food and transport prices. We must do everything we can to prevent a hurricane of famine and the collapse of the global food system», – Mr. Guterres said.
In recent years export of agricultural products to other countries by the end of the year brought our country more than 20 billion US dollars – and this was 45-50% of all export of Ukraine. Besides this, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky has recently met with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania – Secretary of State Ionel Scriostianu, to discuss logistical routes for sending our cargoes through European seaports, including the Romanian seaport of Constanta. As well as possibilities of railway transportations, increase in volumes of transit transportations by cargo transport.
