Austrian railways have already transported 130 000 tons of grain from Ukraine to the EU

The state company "Austrian Federal Railways" (ÖBB) has already transported more than 130 000 tons of grain from Ukraine to the territory of the EU.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to APA.

"Since the beginning of the war, ÖBB has already transported more than 130 000 tons of grain from Ukraine to Germany, Italy, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary," - the message says.

It is stressed that each cargo train from Ukraine carries from 1 300 to 1 600 tons of grain.

It is assumed that by July the volume of transportation to Austria should double to 2 600 tons, and to Hungary by 66%  up to 9100 tons.

A subsidiary enterprise "Austrian Federal Railways" – ÖBB Rail Cargo Group – has previously transported grain from Ukraine. But after the full-scale invasion of the russian federation into Ukraine, transportation increased - mainly in the direction of Germany. From March to April 2022, RCG organized 30 trains transporting                   60 000 tons of grain from Ukraine. Since May, the number of shipments has doubled, in particular, the "green corridor" in the direction of Austria has begun to work.

As reported, on February 24, russia started an unprovoked military invasion of Ukraine, continuing the war that began in 2014. As a result of hostilities, more than 20 million tons of grain were blocked in Ukrainian ports, a larger part of which was intended for the UN World Food Program.

The European Union has created "corridors of solidarity" for the export of Ukrainian grain by dry land, using railway, road transport and inland waterways, but these measures cannot fully solve the problem with the Ukrainian grain exports. The EU supports the UN's efforts to find ways to unblock Ukrainian ports and resume commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
