USDA: Ukraine will reduce milk production by 300 thousand tonnes

Milk production in Ukraine in 2026 will amount to 6.65 million tonnes. This is 300 thousand tonnes, or 4.3%, less than last year’s figure.

This forecast was made by analysts of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Domestic milk consumption in Ukraine is estimated at almost 2.83 million tonnes (−225 thousand tonnes compared with 2025).

The USDA forecasts that exports of Ukrainian butter will decline to 10 thousand tonnes from 14 thousand tonnes last year, and those of skim milk powder to 25 thousand tonnes against 27 thousand tonnes.

The number of cows in Ukraine, according to the experts, will stand at 1.14 million head (−60 thousand head).

Total global milk production in 2026 will amount to 573.1 million tonnes (+7.7 million tonnes compared with the previous year), cheese – 23.5 million tonnes (+350 thousand tonnes), butter – 12.76 million tonnes (+141 thousand tonnes), and skim milk powder – 4.9 million tonnes (+73 thousand tonnes).
