Ukraine resumed manganese ore imports from Ghana in 2026

In January–July 2026, Ukraine imported about 10.9 thousand tonnes of manganese ore, whereas in the same period of the previous year there were no such imports.

Virtually the entire volume of deliveries came from Ghana – 10.896 thousand tonnes worth $1.677 million. Another 5 tonnes worth $3 thousand were imported from China.

Ghana accounted for 99.82% of the value of Ukraine’s manganese raw-material imports in January–July.

The resumption of supplies is taking place alongside the recovery of foreign trade in manganese ore overall. Over the seven months, Ukraine exported 24.647 thousand tonnes of such products worth $4.227 million.

The average calculated value of the exported ore was about $171 per tonne, while that of the ore imported from Ghana was about $154 per tonne.

Imports of manganese ore into Ukraine have fluctuated significantly in recent years. In 2024 the country imported 84.293 thousand tonnes worth $18.302 million.

In 2025 imports fell to 37.006 thousand tonnes valued at $5.546 million. The entire volume was supplied from Ghana only in November, while in January–October imports were virtually absent.

The resumption of supplies already in the first half of 2026 may indicate growing demand for raw materials from the ferroalloy industry amid a gradual recovery of production.
