Ukraine has confirmed its readiness to receive an inspection mission from Algeria as soon as possible and to provide the necessary conditions for the inspection of a powdered milk production facility.

This was discussed during a meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to Ukraine and Moldova, Ahmed Ouail.

Once the inspection is completed, the parties will be able to proceed to further practical work on supplies of powdered milk to the Algerian market. The inspection is expected to become the next stage of cooperation following the visit of representatives of the Ukrainian dairy industry and the competent authority to Algeria.

Separately, the meeting also considered opportunities for opening the Algerian market to Ukrainian meat products, in particular poultry meat and products derived from it. Ukraine has already submitted a request to the Algerian side regarding the requirements, admission procedures and relevant veterinary certificates and is currently awaiting an official response.

Algeria remains one of the largest importers of wheat, so the stability of its supplies from Ukraine is of significant importance for the food security of the country and the North African region.

Taras Vysotskyi informed the Algerian side that, following the blockade of seaports due to Russian shelling, Ukraine is working on alternative supply routes and is making efforts to restore the full operation of the maritime export corridor.

The parties agreed to continue coordination between the competent authorities, jointly develop logistical solutions and expand access for Ukrainian agricultural products to the Algerian market.
