Ukraine has lost about one-third of its grain export capacity through its key Black Sea ports due to intensified Russian attacks.

Ukrainian agricultural exports, particularly grain and vegetable oils, remain the largest source of foreign currency revenue for the country, with over 90% of this cargo shipped through three ports in the south of Odesa region.

Previously, the Odesa ports handled around 6 million tonnes of cargo per month. However, after the intensification of Russian strikes on Black Sea ports, this figure has fallen to closer to 4 million tonnes.

The number of grain wagons heading to the Odesa ports decreased by 11% in the week of July 2–8 compared to the previous week, while exports dropped by 17%.

In addition, 4 out of 13 major grain terminals in these ports have suspended grain purchases.
