Oil exports increased by 56%: which direction became the main one for Ukrainian processors

Ukraine is seeing a rapid recovery in rail export volumes of agro-processing products.

Over the first 18 days of August, volumes of vegetable oil transported by rail for export rose by 55.9% compared with the same period last year. In total, 71.9 thousand tonnes of oil were shipped by rail during this period – 19.4% higher than July’s figures.

Land borders remain the main export route for Ukrainian processors. The lion’s share of the total oil volume – 77% was directed through western border crossings.

The remaining volumes went via port logistics; in particular, 9 thousand tonnes were shipped by rail to the Danube ports of Izmail and Reni.

Positive dynamics are also visible in the by-products segment of oilseed processing. Exports of oilcake and meal over the 18 days of August reached 104 thousand tonnes, up 5.6% on July volumes. In year-on-year terms the figure is still 13% behind last year’s pace.

The logistics structure for meal shipments is similar to that of oil: 69% of volumes were directed to western borders, while 31% went towards sea and Danube ports.
