The first phase of the freight terminal modernization at the Porubne–Siret international road border crossing on the Ukrainian-Romanian border is nearing completion.

The project is being implemented under the EU's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme on a co-financing basis.

The works include the development of modern infrastructure for carrying out border control procedures and increasing the checkpoint's processing capacity.

The main engineering works have now been completed. Construction of the engineering framework for the future freight terminal is in its final stage.

Once the facility is commissioned, the border crossing will be able to handle a larger volume of freight traffic, helping to increase the overall border crossing capacity.

Overall, the reconstruction of the Porubne–Siret freight terminal includes the construction of four additional inbound lanes for freight vehicles entering Ukraine, the creation of a designated waiting area, and the implementation of modern customs and border control technologies.

The project is being implemented on a co-financing basis: 50% is financed through an EU grant under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme, while the remaining 50% is financed from the State Budget of Ukraine.
