Following its record year in 2023, cargo handling volumes at Romania’s largest port continue to decline.

In 2025, the cargo turnover of Constanta Port reached 67 million tonnes, compared to 77.5 million tonnes the previous year. Compared to the record 2023, when the port handled 92.6 million tonnes, the figure has decreased by nearly 28%. The downward trend in cargo handling has continued into 2026 as well.

Last year, the largest volumes handled through the port were grain, iron ore, crude oil and petroleum products, coal, and fertilizers.

Grain cargo volumes fell to 18.3 million tonnes, down from 26.9 million tonnes in 2024 and 36 million tonnes in 2023. The decline came after two years of record cargo flows, a significant portion of which was provided by Ukrainian grain transit.

The results of port operators were impacted by reduced cargo flows, changes in trade routes in the Black Sea region, and a decrease in the volume of Ukrainian agricultural products in transit.
