Currants do not belong to the brightly expressed export-oriented berry crops of Ukraine, however, certain volumes of products are steadily supplied to foreign markets.
In 2025, due to unfavorable weather conditions, currant production decreased, which directly affected exports in both the fresh and frozen segments.
In the fresh currant segment, exports decreased, primarily in the direction of Poland, which is traditionally the main sales market for Ukrainian products. At the same time, supplies to Moldova remained economically feasible, which allowed not only to maintain them, but also to record a slight increase. In July of last year, 100% of the fresh berries were sent there.
In 2025, only about 5% of the harvest was directed to foreign markets, which is 8% less than in the same period of 2024.
The main directions of frozen currant exports remain Bulgaria, which is the largest buyer of Ukrainian frozen currants, accounting for about 31% of exports. 15% each is bought by Italy, Poland and Germany, 8% – Moldova.
At the same time, imports of frozen currants to Ukraine remain insignificant and are mostly compensated by supplies from Poland.
