The total volume of Ukrainian wheat exports from July to December of the 2025/26 marketing year amounted to 7.86 million tons, compared to 9.86 million tons a year earlier, as the market shifted from the usual EU-driven flow to a much more competitive and logistically constrained environment.
During this period, Ukraine exported only 507 thousand tons of wheat to the EU – about 6% of the total volume – a sharp decline from 3.37 million tons, or 34%, a year earlier. Spain remained Ukraine’s largest buyer within the EU, but volumes dropped significantly – from 2.3 million tons in July–December 2024/25 to about 276 thousand tons in July–December 2025/26. Italy retained second place; however, its purchases also decreased substantially, falling from approximately 400 thousand tons to about 157 thousand tons.
With reduced access to the EU market, North Africa became the primary destination for Ukrainian wheat during the first six months of the 2025/26 marketing year. In July–December 2025/26, shipments to North Africa reached 3.56 million tons, accounting for 45% of Ukraine’s total wheat exports during this period.
Sales to Southeast Asia declined to 2.2 million tons (28%), pressured by strong competition from Australia and ample global supply.
