Global in-shell walnut production in the 2025/26 marketing year is forecast to rise by 3% to 2.7 million tons, according to analysts at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The increase in global production is expected primarily due to the United States, where the gross harvest is projected at 644 thousand tons (+97 thousand tons compared to last season). In the EU countries, 139.4 thousand tons (+1 thousand tons) of walnuts will be harvested. Production in China will remain at 1.55 million tons.
In Ukraine, 100 thousand tons of walnuts were grown (+1.36 thousand tons, or 1.3% compared to the 2024/25 season).
At the same time, global walnut exports are expected to grow by 3% to a record 1.22 million tons. Shipments from the United States will increase to 400 thousand tons (+34.8 thousand tons) and from Turkey to 45 thousand tons (+11.3 thousand tons).
This season, Ukraine is expected to export 35 thousand tons of walnuts. This is 14.1 thousand tons, or 67%, more than last year.
