The “Hrebenne – Rava-Ruska” checkpoint was connected to the EU’s EES

As of 3 November, additional checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border – the “Hrebenne – Rava-Ruska” road and rail crossings – have officially joined the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES).

All Polish checkpoints with Ukraine in Lviv region are already operating within the EES system. The only remaining exception is the “Dolhobyczow – Uhtyniv” checkpoint, which is currently functioning in test mode. Its full launch is scheduled for 4 November.

The EES system is being introduced across EU countries to improve the efficiency of border control and enhance security. During the first entry into the EU after its system launch, nationals of third countries – particularly Ukrainians – must complete an extended registration process. This includes facial photography and the collection of four fingerprints for individuals aged 12 and older.

This procedure is conducted once, after which the data is stored in a unified EU database, allowing faster border crossing in the future.

The main goal of the EES is to ensure maximum convenience for travellers, reduce border-crossing time, improve security, accurately track the duration of stay of foreigners in the EU countries and prevent illegal migration.
