The European Union is strengthening the control of market operators by exporting countries.
According to the information of the European Commission, based on the results of coordinated actions during the control of cargoes with honey and beekeeping products during importation into the territory of the EU, one or another inconsistency was found in 46% of cargoes, and 57% of exporters from third countries that were subject to control were marked as suspicious regarding adulteration of honey with extraneous sugars.
Since November 30, 2024, honey and other bee products intended for human consumption may be imported into the EU only if they are sent, received and/or produced in establishments listed by the competent authority of the exporting country.
Interested market operators of producers of honey and beekeeping products should apply in advance (a month in advance) to the territorial body of the State Production and Consumer Service to include the capacities of market operators in the lists of capacities from which the export of honey and beekeeping products to the EU for human consumption is permitted.
