EU reintroduces quotas on sugar and egg imports from Ukraine

The European Commission announced, that the two commodities will no longer be exempted from duties and quotas. For eggs and sugar, this average is 23 188,96 tons and 262 652,68 tons, respectively.

Since the beginning of 2024, the import of eggs and sugar from Ukraine has already exceeded the volume, so tariff quotas have been established in accordance with the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, and additional import will continue with the most favoured nation (MFN) duty. From 1 January 2025 until 5 June 2025, Ukraine will be able to export five-twelfths of the threshold set for triggering the emergency brake, corresponding to 109 438 tonnes of sugar, and 9 662 for eggs.
