In May of the marketing year 2023/24 Ukraine exported 714 thousand tons of sunflower oil (+14% to the April indicator), making it the maximum monthly volume since January 2021. In general, this is the third largest monthly volume of shipments in the entire history of exports of this product from the country.

In total in September-May of 2023/2024 marketing year a record 5,14 million tons of oil were exported from the country for the indicated period. One of the main factors contributing to the active export of the product in the current season was the high demand for sunflower oil against the background of its competitive cost compared to other vegetable oils. Additionally, the stable operation of Ukrainian ports ensured practically uninterrupted shipment of the product.

The European countries with a share of 60 % (40 % in the previous month) became the key market for selling Ukrainian products during this season. The oil export in this export direction increased by 81 %. At the same time, Ukraine is the main supplier of the sunflower oil to the EU with a share of 93 %, compared to 89% during the previous season (according to the European Commission data).
