The export of Ukrainian walnuts increased, but the income from it reduced

Last year, Ukraine exported a total of almost 31 000 tons of walnuts worth more than 77 million US dollars. Compared to 2022, the quantitative volumes of exports increased by 21%, but revenues reduced by 4%. This was reported to GrowHow in the Ukrainian Agricultural Export Association.

In the structure of the export of walnuts last year, 8,6 thousand tons fell on fruits in the shell, and 22 thousand tons — on husks. The European Union became the largest sales market. The cost of sales to the markets of its countries amounted to more than 45 million US dollars (58% of all revenues).

The largest purchases of in-shell walnuts from Ukraine in 2023 were made by the following non-European countries: Iraq (3,1 thousand tons), Türkiye (2,3 thousand tons), Azerbaijan (1,8 thousand tons).

The main consumers of peeled fruits were: Azerbaijan (2,4 thousand tons), Türkiye (2,3 thousand tons), France (2,2 thousand tons), Romania (2 thousand tons), Greece (1,9 thousand tons), Germany (1,4 thousand tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (1,2 thousand tons).

In the Ukrainian Agricultural Export Association noted a generally reducing trend in sales of Ukrainian walnuts at the international market after the start of the full-scale war. In 2023, it was further complicated by the problem of lower export prices.
