Five EU countries again appealed to the European Commission in the case of Ukrainian agricultural products

Five EU countries - Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria - appealed to the European Commission on May 11 with a call to propose appropriate protection mechanisms for the farmers of these countries against the increased influx of Ukrainian agricultural products. The letter concerns exceptional and temporary preventive measures regarding the import of a limited number of goods from Ukraine.

These countries offered to confirm the extension until the end of the year of the decision of the European Commission from May 2 regarding the ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine to the five EU countries. They also propose to introduce permanent monitoring of the import of other sensitive agro-food products from Ukraine and, if necessary, to provide for the prompt implementation of preventive measures. Besides this, it is offered to adapt the level of support to farmers to the actual losses, as well as to allocate additional funds to help farmers.
