Canada has temporarily opened access to the poultry products market for goods originating from Ukraine. The export of poultry products from Ukraine to Canada will take place within the framework of Canada's temporary cancellation of customs duties and tariff quotas for a period of 1 year, starting from June 9, 2022.
The parties agreed that the first ten commercial batches of meat products from Ukraine will be subject to full organoleptic inspection. Accreditation of new companies will be carried out by the Canadian Food Safety Inspection Agency remotely or during a "physical" on-site inspection. The list of accredited Ukrainian companies that have the right to import meat products to Canada can be found at this link https://inspection.canada.ca/active/netapp/meatforeign-viandeetranger/forliste.aspx
Commercial poultry and dairy farming in Canada are part of the so-called agribusiness supply management system and are in fact closed to significant import. The system provides for the centralized determination of the level of import tariff quotas, management of supplies at the local level, and establishment of local prices for manufactured products. Tariff quotas are determined by Global Affairs Canada in accordance with a country's trade obligations.
